J&K Government Plans to Increase Marriage Assistance by 50%
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government is considering a plan to raise marriage assistance for low-income families by 50%. This proposal aims to provide more financial support for families struggling to pay for wedding costs.
Right now, the State Marriage Assistance Scheme gives a one-time payment of Rs. 50,000 to women from families with Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) or Priority Household (PHH) ration cards. Since it started on December 2, 2015, by the Central Government and was implemented in J&K on December 8, 2015, the scheme has helped many families manage wedding expenses.
Recently, Social Welfare Minister Sakeena Masood Itoo asked the Social Welfare Department to explore the possibility of increasing the aid from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,000.
The department will review current funding, look at how much it will cost to support more beneficiaries, and check how the increase will affect the social welfare budget.
The goal is to ensure that the updated scheme is practical and works well for families in need. They will evaluate both the financial aspects and the long-term benefits for the people receiving the aid.
